Yes, you read the title right. A California-based electric bike manufacturer called Mokwheel has unveiled an intelligent electric bicycle christened the Basalt e-bike, which is boldly claimed to be the world's first fusion of a power station and an e-bike.
As a bike, its spec-sheet is pretty impressive. Propelling the Basalt e-bike is a 750W brushless DC motor that produces 85Nm, with a claimed top speed of 45 kmph, which is ample for an electric bicycle. This motor is paired with a 960 Wh battery that is said to offer a whopping range of 136 km on a single charge. It also features a multifunctional LED display that shows riding speed, battery level and trip information.
The Basalt is an all-terrain e-bike that comes equipped with 26-inch by 4-inch chunky tyres, adjustable front fork with 110 mm of travel, and a hard tail rear. It is available in both step-through and step-over frame configurations.
As owners of this bike are bound to take the path less travelled, there’s bound to be anxiety over power-backup for their electronic gadgets like cameras, phones, laptops, lights, and much more. Well, that’s where the Basalt’s unique offering comes into picture. The bike’s battery can be paired to an inverter with solar charging compatibility, transforming it into a mobile power station.
This inverter boasts of a maximum power output of 1,000 W and offers both a USB-C and DC output. It is also compatible with solar panels ranging from 18 to 48 V. The company claims that this battery can power a 900W electric grill for 45 mins. Who would’ve thought of a well-done steak grilled off a cycle battery? Awesome!
The Basalt e-bike is currently being crowd-funded through Indiegogo, and is highly unlikely to find its way to Indian shores. While the price of this e-bike is not yet revealed, the company is targeting to price it at under USD 2,000, which is approximately Rs 1.56 lakh. For this price point in India, you can get yourself popular electric scooters like the Ola S1 Pro, Ather 450X, TVS iQube and Bajaj Chetak.
